Skyhook is an OAA-licensed practice dedicated to modular residential design and construction. Overseeing the development of multiunit housing projects, using a modular product line for Z Modular. Z Modular is a vertically integrated Developer and Manufacturer with several modular plants in Canada and the US. The Kitchener plant designs, develops, builds, and manages an expanding list of project sites across Southern Ontario. The buildings are site-specific, but built modular, utilizing a streamlined design process on Revit.

We are looking for an ambitious young architect looking to hone skills in design and advanced technology. An immediate full-time position is available for an Architect/Intern, with an aptitude for design and permit drawings, and experience in the design and management of residential projects, from Schematic Design to Project Close-out. The ideal candidate will have an interest in modular construction, automated fabrication systems, parametric design software, and developing alternative approaches to the construction industry.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience 4-6 years post-grad in design office, and some experience in project management
  • Degree Arch/M.Arch
  • Registration OAA Intern or licenced
  • Project mgmt Experience in managing a medium-sized design project and consultants
  • Team mgmt Experience or aptitude for organizing teams and deliverables
  • Admin Knowledge of CHOP work schedules and project budgets
  • Site Design Experience or aptitude for zoning, site planning, zoning and by-laws
  • Construction mgmt Knowledge of CCDC contracts, management and administration
  • BIM Advanced understanding of Revit and BIM360
  • Communications Liaison with Design Team, Clients, Contractors and Fabricators
  • Code In-depth understanding of OBC and other regulatory documents
  • BIM Advanced understanding of Revit and BIM360
  • Building Science Aptitude for construction drawings, shop drawings & details
  • Office Leadership Assist in various office operations and HR

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Project Architect Design    work with Architect to use modular standards to design buildings

Meetings           weekly meeting for projects, coordination and production

PM                    generate/maintain project schedule and budget

Details              develop of new modular details for current projects and the product line

Code                 review code for envelope, fire separations, accessibility, etc

Coordinate        coordinate design details and clash detection with design team

Deliverable       oversee drawing package for Permit and Tender

Cloud                assist in management of Sharepoint, Procore and BIM360

  • Office Leadership R&D assist in developing generative design and robotics

Office                assist with office operating procedures

Sales                assist with sales, outreach and presentations

Production        assist in scheduling weekly production needs

Staffing             assist in resourcing and delegate tasks to design team

Training            assist in onboarding training and mentoring for new designers and PMs

Travel               potential travel in CAN/US to meet clients or visit other plants

 

 

Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule is an essential function of this role. Lead and promote health and safety work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy
