Job Description

Zekelman is seeking a Senior Process Engineer. Reporting to the VP of Engineering and Technology, this person will be responsible for leading the effort to support and optimize automated systems within our manufacturing operations, initially focused on a newly developed automated warehouse systemThis is a greenfield project where the person chosen for this role will have significant leadership opportunities and input into the development of the Zekelman automation support team. The Senior Process Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to document and support the execution of automation initiatives. The ideal candidate is a seasoned self-starter with a strong background in industrial automation and a record of accomplishment in delivering tangible results in manufacturing environments. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: 

  • Lead and promote health and safety work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy    
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop appropriate controls and standard operating procedures supporting automated systems. 
  • Learn and document Zekelman’s warehouse management system, becoming a subject matter expert and understanding integration points with packaging, manufacturing execution systems, and transportation management systems. 
  • Train support onsite super users regarding appropriate troubleshooting steps required to identify and resolve issues with the automated systems. 
  • Develop and lead a team of automation specialists responsible for the documentation, maintenance, monitoring, and support of automated warehouse management systems. 
  • Develop appropriate monitoring and management dashboards to facilitate the proactive identification of potential issues. 
  • Coordinate and document integration points, issues, and knowledge between multiple internal and external vendors during implementation and on-going support of automation projects. 
  • Communicate with employees to gain feedback on performance and functionality of automated systems. 
  • Collaborate with Information Security team to ensure automated environments adhere to approved OT security, disaster recovery, and business continuity best practices and frameworks.   
  • Coordinate necessary change approval and testing efforts on automated systems. 
  • Coordinate with enterprise leaders and automation engineers to identify and consult on data-driven optimization strategies. 
  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the onsite schedule is an essential function of this role

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: 

  • Progressive experience in a technical / automation / ICS / MES / process rolepreferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field preferred 
  • Motivated, independent worker, capable of innovation with little supervision 
  • Experience in process design, and project management, including process troubleshooting and optimization 
  • Advanced understanding in the design, application, and maintenance of multi-sourced automated management systems and related instrumentation 
  • Prior experience with PLC & HMI programming, SCADA Systems, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Software Integration, Industrial Control Systems, Warehouse Management Systems, Ladder Logic, preferred 
  • Ability to lead improvement and commissioning of new and existing equipment. Test the automation of manufacturing systems 
  • Ability to assist in installing, upgrading, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware and software, on new and/or used equipment used in automated manufacturing systems 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills 
  • Ability to connect the organization’s goals and objectives with automation policies and plans. 
  • On-call availability per schedule or as needed. 
  • 50+% travel required.
