Job Description

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

  • Safely and efficiently move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using forklifts or other equipment.
  • Identify and sort cargo before loading and unloading.
  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions from Lead Material Handler
  • Record numbers of units handled or moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets.
  • Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.
  • General housekeeping of various production areas
  • Makes sure shelves at various production areas are well stocked.
  • Puts away extra supply/materials that are no longer needed at certain areas in the production line.
  • Follow all established safety procedures.
  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule
  • Responsible for special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for the Material Handler position will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and 1+ years of related experience. Forklift operation certification preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to become fork-lift certified
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to operate storage and material handling equipment (i.e., pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.)
  • Knowledge and usage of measuring and testing devices, hand and power tools.
  • Basic math abilities
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Uncompromising commitment to safety
    • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with other team members.

PHYSICIAL DEMANDS:

The information below outlines the aggregated physical demands of all positions within the Birmingham, AL Facility. All shop floor job positions and tasks were considered to determine and objectively quantify the physical and cognitive demands that each Blytheville teammate requires to successfully carry out their duties and responsibilities.

In addition to physical capabilities, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and required equipment that may require to be operated is also included. These factors should be considered when determining physical capabilities as well as cognitive competence.
