Job Description

The Buyer is responsible for managing procurement activities, including processing purchase orders, negotiating vendor contracts, and ensuring timely material availability. This role supports cost-saving initiatives, supplier management, and cross-functional collaboration with operations, engineering, and finance to optimize purchasing efficiency.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Convert purchase requisitions into purchase orders and issue them to suppliers, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Follow up on open purchase orders, track supplier delivery schedules, and resolve order discrepancies.
  • Review engineering specifications and drawings; communicate with suppliers to request quotes (RFQs).
  • Manage daily purchasing requirements while supporting cost-saving initiatives.
  • Identify discrepancies between prints, schedules, and requested materials, working with internal teams and suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms with suppliers for both short- and long-term agreements.
  • Evaluate vendors based on cost, quality, delivery, and service performance; conduct routine audits on preferred suppliers.
  • Work with accounts payable to resolve invoice discrepancies and payment issues.
  • Participate in weekly meetings to provide purchasing updates and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Leads and promotes healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.
  • Travel to job sites in AZ and TX as needed for supplier assessments and project support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems such as Dynamics 365.
  • Experience managing vendor negotiations, purchase order processing, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Familiarity with reading engineering drawings and technical specifications for procurement accuracy.
  • Certifications (Preferred but not required): CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or CPP (Certified Purchasing Professional).
  • Any combination of relevant education and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in the essential functions of the role.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Strong negotiation skills to drive cost savings and ensure best-value procurement.
  • Time management and prioritization skills to handle multiple purchase orders and vendor interactions.
  • Problem-solving ability to identify and resolve procurement challenges efficiently.
  • Knowledge of purchasing policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and follow through on projects.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and conflict resolution with confidence.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This role involves both office and construction site settings. Office tasks occur in a controlled environment with standard equipment, while regular construction site visits may involve outdoor conditions and active work areas. A professional demeanor and effective communication are essential in both settings.
  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance is an essential function of this role.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer, including repetitive hand and wrist movements.
  • Proficiency in handling office equipment and moving around the office.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Good visual acuity for reading screens and documents.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain and various conditions commonly found on construction job sites.
